The Underwater Museum

The idea of the Museum was born from the ‘intuition of the extraordinary communicative power of art, capable of striking deep into the human sensibility.

It is made possible thanks

	to the generosity of Carrara’s Michelangelo Quarries, which donate the marble blocks,
	to the enthusiasm of the sculptors, who offer their work for free to promote the defense of the sea

The Underwater Museum becomes a pivotal element of the Association’s communication strategy aimed at drawing public attention to the issue of seabed protection;

It consists of 24 Carrara marble sculptures placed in the body of water below the Fortress of Talamone, created between 2016 and 2023 by well-known Italian and foreign artists.
Another 20 marble blocks, with carvings inspired by the Contrade of Siena, are placed on the seabed in front of Alberese beach.

Reaching the village of Talamone (Municipality of Orbetello), the Museum is accessible by swimming starting from the beach of “Bagno delle Donne” (see map).

In favorable weather conditions, the works can also be seen by swimming on the surface with mask and snorkel. For a more complete visit, the use of scuba diving equipment is advisable.
